Travel Soccer Program

updated May 1, 2008

Mt. Laurel United Soccer Association’s Travel Soccer Program is open to all area youth. Boys and Girls are placed on teams according to age group, and abilities displayed during try-outs.

We commonly offer team play on several levels within an age group, in order to allow, all who want to participate to join. We enjoy teams at many levels of play, including Regional Champions and State Champions from our Academy Program. Our travel team try-outs are held in May, for teams forming for the following fall season. We also offer try-outs in December to fill a limited number of openings that may exist on a few teams. Travel players generally commit to a team for a year, fall and spring season.

Most of our boys teams play in South Jersey Soccer League and most of our girls teams play in South Jersey Girls Soccer League. Travel team games are generally within an hour travel time. Ages 7 through 10 enjoy 8 versus 8 play , and ages 11 through 18 enjoy 11 versus 11 play.

For the most part, our teams are coached by parent volunteers, whom usually have a player on the team they are coaching. All coaches are required to be licensed through New Jersey Youth Soccer. All adults affiliated with a team, coaches, managers and all training staff are screened through the NJYS Kid Safe Program. Professional training is offered to each team, through Mt. Laurel United Soccer.

The fall season games begin around the second weekend in September, generally there are 10 games, one each weekend, ending in November. During the winter months, when outdoor play is not possible due to field and weather conditions, many teams participate in indoor league soccer. The Spring season begins in March and concludes in early June. In recent years the spring season has been shortened to 8 weeks, due to historically cancelled games to due inclement weather and field conditions. Tournament play, which can be local or out of state, is also part of the travel soccer experience for many teams. U8 -u14 teams play the fall and spring season. The u15 and above teams usually play winter and spring soccer and do not play fall soccer due to high school soccer team play.

Many teams choose to enter state cup competition and compete against other teams in NJ for the state title in their age group. There are two state-wide level competitions. The first being the NJ State Cup  and the second the NJ National Championship Cup. The winner of this competition is eligible to advance to Regional play. The u11 through u14 teams play state cup in the fall and the u15 and up teams play in the spring.

There are several so to speak, premier leagues for upper level competition that some of our more competitive teams participate in.
